In Memory of Erkan SEVINC

Mr. Erkan SEVINC received his B.Sc. degree in Aeronautics Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1995 and subsequently obtained his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bogazici University. His master’s thesis focused on the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis of three-dimensional flows around blunt bodies.

Following his initial industry experience in HVAC engineering, he contributed to an experimental research program at the tri-sonic aerodynamics laboratory of Istanbul Technical University for two years. He joined Istanbul Patent in December 1999.

Mr. Sevinc represented both local and international clients before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, the European Patent Office (EPO), the Unified Patent Court (UPC), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). His expertise covered various fields of mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering, including constructions, vehicle safety, medical instruments, heat transfer systems, material technologies, measurement and testing equipment, and manufacturing technologies. He was actively involved in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting infringement and invalidity analyses, and handling opposition proceedings before the Turkish PTO and the EPO.

Since 2004, he was repeatedly appointed as a court expert by the specialized IP courts of Istanbul in patent litigation matters. In 2015, he earned a University Diploma in “Patent Litigation in Europe” from the CEIPI (Center for International Intellectual Property Studies), University of Strasbourg.

Mr. Sevinc was among the few European Patent Attorneys in Türkiye authorized to represent clients before the Unified Patent Court following its entry into force on June 1, 2023.

He was a member of FICPI and EPI, and a founding member of the national groups of AIPPI Türkiye and LES Türkiye.

We are deeply saddened by his passing in 2024. Mr. Sevinc was a respected colleague whose technical excellence, professional integrity, and warm personality left a lasting impression on our team and the broader IP community. He will be remembered with great respect and affection.
